This workshop covers essential mathematical knowledge regarding audio design for VR application. It will discuss quaternion algebra and mathematical modeling for the acoustics. Quaternion algebra is a mathematical concept that is common in VR development, and this workshop will teach the concept of quaternion and its practical application in VR coding for vector rotation. Ideas and methodology for mathematical model that creates three-dimensional auditory scene will be discussed, along with practical implementation using HRIR-convolved audio files. The workshop will be demonstrated using music software MAX/MSP and python, although methods discussed can be more generally applied to other platforms. IMMERSIVE RECOMMENDATION: DEEP USER AND CONTENT MODELING FOR PERSONALIZATION

The rapid evolution of deep learning technologies and the explosion of diverse user interaction traces have brought significant challenges and opportunities to recommendation and personalized systems. In this workshop, we will discuss recent trends and techniques in user modeling and present our work on immersive recommendation systems. These systems learn users’ preferences from diverse digital trace modalities (text, image and unstructured data streams) in a wide range of recommendation domains (creative art, food, news, and events). The workshop will also include a light tutorial on OpenRec, an open source framework that enables quick prototyping of complex recommender systems via modularization. This workshop is based on research and development done at Cornell Tech as part of the Connected Experiences Lab, supported by Oath and NSF. This workshop is designed to get you started in the world of e-textiles. It will explore the use of wearable computing using the Lilypad Simple Board with other LilyPad components like a buzzer, a vibration motor, LEDs, a button, a switch, a light sensor, and a temperature sensor.
